Police Academy Requirements in Hawaii

Hawaii is one of the most beautiful states is all of America. Everywhere you look there is nothing but amazing scenery including beautiful trees, flowers, and beaches. It’s no wonder why it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the entire country. But even though, it may be paradise to most people, there is still a need for police officers.

Now, Hawaii has a unique approach to the way it hires police officers compared to most states, but they still have a set of minimum requirements that all applicants must meet. And while this guide will go over a few of the requirements exam details, we suggest visiting www.PrepareForThePoliceAcademy.com for more in-depth articles and guides about police officer training.

Requirements

Now the one thing that stands out the most in regards to Hawaii’s law enforcement departments is that there is no official police board. Instead, the local government of Hawaii is currently debating whether or not to institute standard procedures that would be enforced when hiring police officers. There are a total of four counties in Hawaii including Maui, Honolulu, Kauai and Hawaii.

Since there’s no police board and no set of minimum requirements, each county has its own set of requirements. Also, the state of Hawaii doesn’t have an actual highway patrol system either. Instead, each of the four counties overlook the part of the highway system that is in their respective jurisdiction. Now while each of the 4 counties have there are requirements for becoming a police officer, there are also a few common ones that all 4 counties share.

The first requirement is the same as most of the states in America; that the applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America. Secondly, the applicant must be 21 years of age or older to actually become a police officer, but some counties actually will allow 20 year olds to apply but they must be 21 years old before they can graduate. And just like other states, the applicants must have either a high school diploma, or at least a G.E.D.

Police Officer Training and Tests

Now even though the crime rate is low, the state of Hawaii still has a set of tests and interviews that applicants must be able to pass if they want to become a police officer. These series of interviews and tests consists of a physical test, a written test, an oral examination and an interview. The written tests is given to gauge the applicant’s overall ability to read, their writing communication skills and also their observations skills.

The oral interview can be either one of 2 ways, either a one on one interview or it could be a typical panel setting with senior members of the law enforcement. To make sure that you’re ready for all interviews and exams, we recommend visiting www.PrepareForThePoliceAcademy.com for more in-depth guides on preparing for exams.

The next test that applicants will take is the lie detector test. Basically, a lie detector test is given to determine the truthfulness of the information you gave them during any prior interviews and the information you put down on your applicant.

These type of tests usually can determine whether or not they will continue with the overall interview process. Meaning, if the applicant fail the lie detector test, then they will automatically be disqualified. Now some states have a difference set of standards in regards to this test. So, in the end, if may depend on the person giving the test to determine whether or not any of the answers you got wrong is bad enough to actually disqualify you.

Regarding the physical test, for most applicants, this test is the most difficult one to pass. Mainly because your level of endurance determines whether or not you actually will pass. So having said that, we always recommend that if you know that you may be out of shape, it’s best to start working as soon as possible and that way before you even apply to become a police officer, you’ll be in better overall shape and your chances of completing that part of training will increase dramatically. Usually, the test involves basic exercises like situps and pushups, but what makes it difficult is that you will have to do each all of the exercises in a set amount of time.

Graduation

After all of the tests and exams are passed, you can then graduate from the academy. And you can also consider yourself lucky because after weeks of training, exams, and interviews, you’ll be able to become a police officer in one of the most beautiful states in America. So now that you know what to expect during training, be sure to visit www.PrepareForThePoliceAcademy.com today for affordable guides that will help you prepare for everything you need in order to become a police officer in the state of Hawaii.
